GREETINGS!

It’s time for a new school year!  (I feel an earthquake from parents jumping up and down!)  I know every student is excited to begin.  (Now, now, you know you are! J)  Dillon Christian School is pleased to have your child enrolled in our school, and it will be my pleasure to instruct your children in the Bible.  Please allow me to introduce myself.

MY TIME AT DCS

My name is Lanny Carpenter, and I am in my 11th year at DCS.    In addition to teaching, I have also been heavily involved in the athletic program of our school, as head coach of Junior Varsity Boys basketball for 10 years, and coaching or assisting other sports.  This year I am teaching 6th and 8th grade Bible, 7th and 8th grade PE, assistant Athletic Director, and computer troubleshooter for the teacher’s computers.

MY LIFE

My wife, Sandy, and I have six children, with the youngest two presently attending DCS.  In my “spare time” I am the pastor of Pee Dee Southern Methodist Church in the Pee Dee community of Marion County, just beginning my 5th year there.  I am also employed as a board member and staff writer for Light of Life Ministry in Nashville, TN.  (www.lolministry.org) I have co-authored two Bible study books, am currently writing another one, and am involved in writing a novel.  If that’s not enough, I began Master’s level courses in July!

FAITH

I hail from the great state of Louisiana.  My twin brother (Danny, who, incidentally, is a missionary to Venezuela) and I have literally been in church all our lives.  At the age of eleven I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior, and I have never looked back.  When I was fifteen and attending a summer youth camp, I accepted God’s call on my life for full-time ministry.  I graduated from Southern Methodist College in Orangeburg, SC, with a B.A. in Bible.  While in college I chose for my life verse Galatians 2:20:  I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”  I have pastored churches a total of 17 years, and have taught at DCS for 10 years.

PASSION

I love the Word of God!  It is my passion to teach God’s Word every chance I get, and I desire to instill my love for the Bible in my students.  I really want them to know the Bible so that they may know the God of the Bible.  It is my belief that we must inspire our children to study, understand, and live God’s Word.  To know Christ as their Savior, each student must have the Scriptures taught to them and the Holy Spirit moving upon them.  So I pray that this will be a spiritually productive year, with the Bible producing much fruit in the lives of the students.

CLASSROOM

This year I am sharing room 302 with Mrs. Pat Hudec.  My classes are the first three periods, and hers is the last three.  It is important to both of us that the room be kept neat and straight at all times.  Our desks are on the same side of the room, and that side of the room will be off limits to the students.  Following below I will list my other classroom rules.

Classroom Rules:

1.       Respect God, teachers, fellow students, and self.

1.              Come to class with proper materials (including homework).  You cannot leave class to get materials.

2.              Tardiness will not be tolerated.  Because my classroom is upstairs, I expect you to give yourself plenty of time to get here.

3.              No talking without teacher’s permission.

4.              Raise hand to receive permission to speak or to get out of your seat.

5.              No gum, candy, food, or drink will be permitted in the classroom.

6.              Be familiar with the Student Handbook and the guidelines of the school.

Teacher reserves the right to amend these rules or add new ones as needed.

Consequences of Misbehavior:

1.       Teacher – student conference.

2.       Teacher held detention at break time/writing assignment/cleaning job (+ a phone call home).

3.       School-held detention.

4.       Teacher - parent conference – face to face, with documentation.

5.       Dismissed from class and sent to office.

Teacher reserves the right to use these consequences at any time they are deserved, and not necessarily in the order given, depending on the severity of the offense.

I look forward to a great year with the students.  If at anytime you need to contact me, please call the school office at (843)841-1000, or email me at lcarpenter@warriorweb.us.

In Christ’s service,

Lanny Carpenter
